"An in-depth study of the major political events that shaped Canada..." Resource Links
This digital Canadian history project covers the history of Canada from the 1500s to the present, following the theme of our constitutional evolution. It is in schools across Canada.
This website is the beginning of the fifth edition which will be online in its entirety soon.
Why a constitutional thread? Because constitutional debates have been part of Canadian politics from the very beginning and we should understand them in the context of their historical evolution. As well, Canada's federal structure is becoming a much-needed model to the rest of the world of a form of government that can accommodate different interests and protect minorities within a democratic system.
Most of the 27 chapters open with a short movie - complete with narration, sound effects and vintage Canadian music to present a lively overview of the subject. Then several additional links give more indepth information.
Topics range from New France to Confederation to Native Treaties in the West to How Government Works Today.
The resource includes over 166,000 words; over one hour of high quality audiovisuals and film clips; hundreds of high resolution archival images; satellite maps; a Glossary and Teacher Guide. In French and English.
